Sky Shield participants are surveillance volunteers only — no enforcement tasks, no arrests, no physical engagement with any individuals at any time.
From alert to mission close — a streamlined, secure, five-step process.
The Foundation's software geo-pings all pre-registered volunteer drone pilots within a 10-mile radius of the last known location.
The pilot receives a secure push notification and clicks "Accept Mission" on their phone or drone interface within the Sky Shield app.
Drone camera feed is securely streamed to law enforcement through the platform. Time-limited, encrypted access token governs the session.
Operators observe from their device. Law enforcement views the live feed in the Command Center. Geofencing and altitude limits are enforced automatically.
Volunteer regains full control. All footage and telemetry is archived securely and chain-of-custody is preserved for potential evidence use.
The Sky Shield software is built with security and compliance at every layer.
Volunteers within radius of an active alert are notified within seconds via secure push notification.
Cryptographic session tokens grant temporary camera access — automatically revoked when the mission ends.
Software-enforced boundaries and altitude limits prevent unauthorized airspace intrusions.
Drone video streams directly into the law enforcement Command Center dashboard in real time.
All mission footage and telemetry is archived with chain-of-custody integrity for potential prosecution use.
Every activation, access event, and mission action is permanently logged with timestamps and user identity.
Law enforcement command centers see every active volunteer drone in real time — battery levels, GPS coordinates, altitude, speed, and flight duration — all overlaid on a live mission map.
Color-coded battery bars with critical threshold alerts — LE is warned before a drone is forced to land mid-mission.
Drone positions update every 2 seconds on the mission map. Heading indicators show direction of travel at a glance.
Per-pilot flight timers track how long each volunteer has been airborne — helping command manage fatigue and handoffs.
Law enforcement can send real-time, encrypted text directives directly to active volunteer pilots — no separate app required. Messages are ephemeral (4-hour TTL), session-scoped, and permanently audit-logged.
Each mission gets a unique session ID. Messages are bound to that session and inaccessible outside it.
LE can flag messages as "Directives" — the pilot must explicitly acknowledge before the channel records compliance.
All messages expire 4 hours after mission close. No persistent chat history — reducing surveillance liability.
Despite ephemerality on the interface, all messages are permanently archived in CJIS-aligned storage for legal record.
Pilots can only respond — they cannot initiate contact. Only LE-role tokens can send directives or open channels.
You are joining as:
Eight foundational capabilities that make the Sky Shield platform operationally viable for law enforcement and safe for civilian volunteers.
Secure, time-limited handoff of camera access to law enforcement — pilot retains physical flight control at all times. Sessions are cryptographically governed and auto-expire.
Real-time encrypted feeds streamed directly to law enforcement command centers. AES-256 in transit; feeds are never stored on civilian infrastructure.
Area-based activation pings volunteers in radius. Software-enforced flight corridors and altitude ceilings prevent airspace violations automatically.
Self-service registration, FAA credential upload, certification verification, mission history, and mission participation management for every enrolled pilot.
Verified operator logins with MFA. Digital deputization logs capture who was activated, when, under which authority, and for how long.
Secure cloud archiving of all footage, telemetry, and metadata. Full chain-of-custody timestamps ensure admissibility for prosecution.
Live situational awareness dashboard for law enforcement — overlays drone positions, geofences, search sectors, and tagged sightings in one view.
Compatibility with police CAD systems and FirstNet — enabling Sky Shield activations to trigger directly from existing dispatch workflows without additional steps.
Sky Shield can integrate with or be built on these proven platforms — each evaluated against our operational, legal, and security requirements.
All-in-one platform purpose-built for public safety agencies. Supports flight control, mission logging, live streaming, and direct integration with FirstNet and dispatch systems.
FAA-authorized platform for flight logging and LAANC airspace approvals. Designed to manage large numbers of operators securely and at scale — ideal for a national volunteer network.
Advanced analytics and situational intelligence used by DHS and federal law enforcement. Ideal for integrating drone data with license plate readers, phone pings, and other investigative data sources.
Tailored to Satellite Child Find's unique operating model. Includes the volunteer app, law enforcement dashboard, and CJIS-aligned cloud storage — built on React, AWS, and modern API infrastructure.
Sky Shield is designed for full legal compliance — protecting volunteers, law enforcement, and the mission.
All participating volunteers must hold a valid FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate, or operate under direct law enforcement operational oversight. Pre-defined flight corridors are enforced via software geofencing.
Under applicable state statutes (including GA and FL), law enforcement may appoint "auxiliary volunteers" during active missing child alert declarations. Activation is tracked and logged electronically via secure software.
Drone operations are restricted to specific emergency scenes under active police authority. No general surveillance is permitted. All operations comply with state privacy laws and FAA airspace restrictions.
Participants sign waivers and limited liability agreements prior to activation. The Foundation provides a blanket volunteer insurance policy. Law enforcement or the Foundation is listed as "additional insured" during operations.
Every identified risk has a corresponding technical or legal mitigation built into the program design.
| Risk / Issue | Mitigation |
|---|---|
| FAA Airspace Violation | Pre-defined flight corridors enforced; only certified or law-enforcement-supervised flights allowed |
| Privacy Concerns | Drones limited to specific emergency scenes with active police authority; no general surveillance |
| Unauthorized Access | Software encryption + time-limited cryptographic access tokens per mission session |
| Civilian Safety | Surveillance only — no enforcement tasks, no arrests, no physical engagement with subjects |
| Data Security | End-to-end encrypted video streams; data archived in CJIS-aligned secure storage |
| Mission Scope Creep | Software enforces altitude limits, geographic bounds, and automatic session termination |
To ensure the safety, legality, and effectiveness of every mission, all Sky Shield volunteers must meet the following criteria before being activated.
